A: Hi Jeff-
Thanks for your question: "Can you tell me anything about the group 1910
Fruit Gum Company?"
The 1910 Fruitgum Company was put together by Buddah Records producers
Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz. The group consisted of studio musicians
including, vocalists Mark Gutkowski and Joey Levine (who also sang with
Ohio Express); guitarists Frank Jeckell, Pat Karwan, and Chuck Travis;
horn player Larry Ripley, and percussionists Rusty Oppenheimer and Floyd
Marcus.
The group had three big hits: "Simon Says", "1,2,3, Red Light" and
"Indian Giver". Most of their songs were based on children's songs and
rhymes. Their first major hit, the 1968 Top Five smash "Simon Says," is
considered the launch of the bubblegum craze. They were short-lived and
their 1969 single "Indian Giver" was their last hit.
You can still find their albums on Amazon.com
Thanks!
