The Chipmunk Song
Q: I know its going to date me, but what the heck. What was the highest chart position for The Chipmunk Song by Alvin And The Chipmunks. I don't know and I really would like to know. Thanks- Tom A: Hi Tom-
Thank you for your question: "What was the highest chart position for The Chipmunk Song by Alvin and the Chipmunks?"
“The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)” was released on Liberty Records in 1958 and sold five million copies in just seven weeks on the charts, reaching number 1 on the Billboard HOT 100.
That isn't the end of the story for our furry little friends. Since Billboard started the HOT 100 on August 4, 1958, White Christmas, the 2nd best-selling single of all time (behind Elton John's "Candle in the Wind” 1997) appeared 5 times on that particular chart. "The Chipmunk Song" also shares this distinction. There are two more songs that did so. And they are all Christmas-songs: Jingle Bell Rock by Bobby Helms and The Little Drummer Boy by Harry Simeone Chorale (the only song to reach the top 40 every time it recharted.)
Chart history for “The Chipmunk Song” on the Billboard HOT 100 is shown below. 1958: nr. 1, w 1959: nr. 41, w 1960: nr. 45, w 1961: nr. 39, w 1962: nr. 40
Thanks! Raven
