Joe Satriani has never been an official member of another band.  He has released several solo albums and has occasionally appeared on other artists albums.  Satriani was a studio musician and eventually toured with the Greg
Kihn band. He also toured as part of Mick Jagger's back up band in the late 80's.  In 1994, he toured with Deep Purple in place of Ritchie Blackmore, but turned down an invitation to become a permanent member of the group.
