Q: "I don't know if you have seen the movie "My Girl 2"? Towards the end when Vada (little girl looking for her real mom) she is watching a video of her mom singing a song. Do you know that name of the song and who sings it or where I would find it? I don't know all the words but some are......smile when your heart is breaking, smile what's the use in crying.........all you do is smile." Thanks- Paula
A: Hi Paula- Thank you for your question: "...Do you know that name of the song and who sings it or where I would find it? I don't know all the words but some are......smile when your heart is breaking, smile what's the use in crying.........all you do is smile." I haven't see n the movie, so I'm not sure who is singing that particular version, but the song is "Smile". I would guess that it is probably Nat King Cole since his is one of the most popular and commonly played versions. It reached #10 on the Billboard charts in 1954. Sunny Gale and David Whitfield also charted with this song in 1954 (19 and 25 respectively). In 1959, Tony Bennett's version reached #73; in 1961, Timi Yuro reached #42; in 1962, the duo Ferrante and Teicher reached #94; and in 1965, Betty Everett and Jerry Butler landed at #42. Unfortunately, this song did not make the My Girl 2
soundtrack. You can do a search on amazon.com to find it by various
artists. I recommend the NCK version though. You can find it here:
Nat King Cole - The Greatest Hits. SMILE Words by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons and Music by Charlie Chaplin
Thanks- Raven
UPDATE: I believe this version was sung by the actress who played Vada's mother in the movie, Angeline Ball.
