A WINDMILL IN OLD AMSTERDAM
Q:
I'm trying to find a song. It has the
lyrics a mouse lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam living in a windmill in old
Amsterdam there on the stair where on the stair right there I think Ronnie
Carroll sang it in the 60's thanks for any help you can give.
Thanks - Tom
A: Hello Tom-
Thank you for taking the time to send me your question.
I believe you are looking for "A Windmill in Old Amsterdam" written by
Ted Dicks and Myles Rudge. I was done by Ronnie Hilton and also by
Freddie and the Dreamers in 1965. Jessi Colter recently did a
version of this song as well. You can hear sound clips of this
song at amazon.com I have enclosed the lyrics below.
I hope this has been helpful.
Please let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
Thanks - Raven
PS - Jessi Colter has a cd called "Around the World".
There is a song called "Windmill in Old Amsterdam" on it. I'm not 100%
certain if it is the same song or not.
PPS. - You can hear samples of both the Ronnie Hilton
Version and Freddie and the Dreamers version at amazon.com. The Ronnie
Hilton is out of print, but used copies are available. The Freddie and
the Dreamers version can be found on the Best of Import cd.

A WINDMILL IN OLD AMSTERDAM **
A Windmill In Old Amsterdam
A mouse lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam
A windmill with a mouse in and he wasn't grousing
He sang every morning, "How lucky I am,
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam"
Chorus:
I saw a mouse
Where?
There on the stair
Where on the stair?
Right there
A little mouse with clogs on
Well, I declare
Going clip clippity clop on the stair
Oh yeah
This mouse he got lonesome, he took him a wife
A windmill with mice in, it's hardly surprising
She sang every morning, "How lucky I am,
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam!"
Chorus
First they had triplets and then they had quints
A windmill with quints in, and triplets and twins in
They sang every morning, "How lucky we are
Living in a windmill in Amsterdam, ya"
Chorus
The daughters got married and so did the sons
The windmill had christenings when no one was listening
They all sang in chorus, "How lucky we am
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam"
Chorus
A mouse lived in a windmill, so snug and so nice
There's nobody there now but a whole lot of mice.
